It was way back in 2001 that we at ACT began celebrating World Tourism Day 27th September at the public level. For any activity or industry to flourish it is extremely necessary to dedicate a day or period towards celebration of the same. Hence, for the world as a whole celebrating Tourism, the oldest and largest activity globally is more than necessary.
We at ACT decided to take it to another mile by celebrating the day as a weekend event for a greater impact on this region which lives on tourism. This is the 7th edition in continuity, where we missed a year in between in pandemic and hence the same demands more attention this year. We have taken the following initiatives with the consent of all members and many from the tourism industry leaders at the rural landscapes of the region of North Bengal, Sikkim, Eastern Nepal, Bhutan and Northern Bangladesh – 23rd September, 2022: The Ecotourism Congress will begin at 10 am at Mainak Tourism Complex with registration and tribute to one of our Gurus of Ecotourism of the region, M.K.Pradhan Ji, who lives in our hearts and have left his thoughts and work for us to inherit. After the success which we received at the Homestay Congress which we organized last year, we have decided to hold this Ecotourism Congress which will provide a better tourism dimension in the context of functionality and sustainability.
At 4:30 pm, we shall have the formal inauguration of 7th WTDF at the City Centre Siliguri, where we shall continue to celebrate for the 3 days and also there will be 20 stalls representing the rural tourism and several other tourism facilities. 24th September, 2022: This will be celebrated as “Himalayan Organic Day” for the 2nd year in continuity, which we began last year. 25th September, 2022: This day will be celebrated as “Living Heritage Day” with activities through folk, fabric, fashion and food.
