The first batch of Agniveers from North Bengal were despatched to various training establishments of Indian Army (IA) for enrolment and basis military training from
18 to 23 Feb 23 by the Army Recruiting Office, Siliguri.
The first Agniveer Recruitment Rally of North Bengal was conducted at Sevoke Road Military Station by the Trishakti Corps in concert with the civil administration of Jalpaiguri Dist from 29 Nov to 06 Dec 22. The rally witnessed an overwhelming response with large number of candidates registering and over 2000 candidates from the districts of North Bengal (Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda) attending the rally each day. Candidates who cleared the Physical and Medical tests had thereafter attended a Common Entrance Examination (CEE) on 15 Jan 23 following which the final Merit list was prepared.
The Agniveer scheme is a transformational Human Resources Management initiative of Indian Army. Under this scheme, a percentage of youth getting enrolled are given the option of getting discharged after four years alongwith various incentives and a handsome financial package. These Agniveers would then be assisted in setting up various entrepreneurships, thereby providing a boost to the local economy in the region.
A revised recruitment methodology has also been rolled out recently, wherein a number of significant charges have been promulgated. Henceforth, an initial Online test would be the first filter, followed by physical and medical tests which would be conducted during the Recruitment rally. The registration process for the online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) and rally for Recruiting Year (2023-24) has already commenced from 16 Feb 2023 and will go on till 15 Mar 2023. Candidates clearing the exam will then be called to attend the rally which is tentatively scheduled from 01 to 06 Dec 2023 at Siliguri.
