On friday, Ajai Singh, Inspector General, BSF North Bengal Frontier inaugurated the recently renovated War Memorial at BOP Khalpara in the presence of Shri Nirman Singh Aujla, Deputy Inspector General, BSF Siliguri Sector and Arun Kumar Singh, Commandant 15 Battalion BSF. BSF Officials, local dignitaries, students and villagers of surrounding villages witnessed the ceremony. 
The war memorial has been constructed to pay tribute to the martyrs of 73 Bn BSF who sacrificed their lives during the Bangladesh liberation war of 1971. Troops of 73 Battalion BSF displayed conspicuous courage and valour and fought a fierce battle with the Pakistani Army on 11th Aug 1971. During the war, enemy targeted BOP Khalpara by subjecting it with heavy bombing. BSF brave hearts fought valiantly and repelled the attack. During the battle, HC Anil Kumar Sarkar and HC Mohini Mohan Roy laid down their lives in the trench fighting bravely.
The other soldier in the trench, Constable Man Bahadur Rai was evacuated to nearby barrack in a critically wounded state where he attained martyrdom on his bed in the barrack while undergoing treatment. The supreme sacrifice made by the three brave hearts of Border Security Force prevented the enemy from capturing BOP Khalpara.
In accordance with the high traditions of the Force in paying homage to their brave martyrs, the barrack is maintained with reverence by cleaning it properly, changing of white bed sheet and lighting of incense stick on daily basis.
Khalpara War Memorial is a true tribute to the gallant martyrs of BSF during Indo-Pak War – 1971 and a saga of unparalleled velour which speaks volumes of the ethos & values of BSF.
