On 01 May 2023 (Monday) at about 0115 hrs, acting on a tip-off, troops of BOP Gayaspur of 137 Battalion BSF under Raiganj Sector in North Bengal Frontier deployed on Indo-Bangladesh Border in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal seized 01 Jar containing suspected Snake Venom (2.010 Kg) in liquid form near International boundary in the general area of BOP Gayaspur while some unknown Bangladeshi smugglers were trying to smuggle it from Bangladesh to India. When challenged by alert BSF troops, the Bangladeshi smugglers escaped towards Bangladesh side leaving behind the contraband. The approx. value of this Snake Venom is Rupees Thirteen Crores (as per international black market). The Jar had markings “Cobra SP Red Dragon, Made in France Code No.6097”. Seized jar of snake venom was handed over to Forest Beat Office Balurghat.
