Three student from Kalingpong and Darjeeling stood first in the state among Nepali language residents. On wednesday, the results were announced by the Board of Higher Secondary Education; these students are Rosy Khatun of Kalimpong Girls Higher Secondary School, Bishant Bosnet of Scottish University Mission Institute and Mamata Aggarwal of Sonada Holy Cross School, Darjeeling. Nepali is the first language of all of them, and the three of them got 461marks(92.2%) respectively.
There is no one from Darjeeling or Kalingpong on the merit list in the state, in this case the achievement of these three student among the Nepali speakers is a bit of a happy breeze. Vishant is the son of a farmer family in Kalimpong; father Tej Bahadur, mother Chanchala Basnet, and a elder brother who’s studying. Nonetheless for now, this student of economics wants to get admission in any Kalimpong of College and is thinking about what profession he will go for in the future.
Rosy’s house is in Kalimpong’s Gumbahata. From there every day Rosy walks home for 15-20 minutes to reach school. Being in the hilly area the transportation isn’t that good. Her father Ahmed Ali is a driver, mother Sabina Khatun is a housewife, and there is an eldet brother and sister. Rosy has not yet decided what she wants to be in the future, for now she has decided to enroll in a college with honors in political science and is thinking of studying in a college in Kalingpong.
A resident of Sonada, Mamata’s father late Umesh Agarwal, mother Usha Agarwal runs a shop. Mamata is studying from fifth standard in Holy Cross School. Arts department student Mamata says I am happy with the result of higher secondary. I will enroll in a college but I haven’t thought about the future in detail.
Kalimpong came first in the pass rate of Secondary Exams. Then why lag behind in Higher Secondary? School inspector Rabindranath Mondal said that last year the pass rate was second in Higher Secondary, this year it is a little worse, will review the matter thoroughly. But all are happy with the results of these three Nepali language student. He said the results of the 2022 batch in Secondary Exams were not good. This year they gave Higher Secondary Exams. However, according to him, in the mountains most of the students have to struggle with poverty to go on with their studies.
