The State Election Commission and the State Govt. This time the Calcutta High Court has ordered panchayat polls in the entire state with central forces. The division bench of Chief Justice T Shivajnanam gave this order on Thursday. Not only sensitive districts, this time all the districts of the state will vote by force. The court gave this order after observing the incidents of violence and murder during the nomination process in the state. The commission has to submit an application to the Ministry of Home Affairs within 48 hours asking for central forces.
The High Court ordered the deployment of central forces in the sensitive districts of the state for panchayat polls. The commission requested to reconsider the order. On this day, the hearing began in the division bench of Chief Justice TS Shivagnam and Justice Uday Kumar.
The Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court strongly reprimanded the state and the State Election Commission after observing the violence and unrest in the state regarding the Panchayat nomination process.He said, “If the commission is indecisive about the touchy booth, then the court will order the deployment of central forces in the entire state.” The court made it clear that the court will not sit like a silent spectator unless there is a mechanism to implement the verdict on the panchayat case.
In response, the lawyer of the State Election Commission clarified, “Steps have been taken.” The commission held a meeting on security. It will take a day or two, forces will be requested from the central government.
After reprimanding the commission, the Chief Justice said, ‘You have held a meeting on June 9. Today is June 15. What is going on?’ After the hearing, the court suspended the verdict. The verdict was announced at around 6:30 pm that day. The court said that panchayat polls in the entire state will be under the supervision of central forces.
