New Delhi April 15: President of Jamiat Ulama Hind, Maulana Mahmud Madani will be questioned again for allegedly issuing Halal certificates through illegal means. Maulana Madani has been summoned to the UP-STF (Special Task Force) headquarters in New Delhi.
The Special Task Force had earlier interrogated Maulana Madani for two days in February. Sources claim that after questioning Maulana Madani and four officials associated with the Halal Certification Trust, the STF got several important information.
Investigations revealed that proceeds from the distribution of Halal certificates were transferred to several companies, some of which are suspected to be shell companies. This is why the STF called Maulana Madani for further questioning. In fact, Maulana Madani is also the chairman of the Halal Council Trust.
Maulana Mudasir, Habib Yusuf Patel, Anwar Khan and Mohammad Tahir were arrested soon after the FIR was issued in the case. All the four arrested persons are associated with the Halal Council of India. It is noted that the Mahmud Madani group of Jamaat Ulama Hind had issued the halal certificate to yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali group in 2020. Some Muslim organizations have alleged that huge sums of money were exchanged for granting halal certification to the Patanjali group. They further alleged that Ramdev’s Patanjali Group uses cow urine to manufacture products. The Mahmud clan has given indirect support to Ramdev, who is known for his pro-government and pro-RSS stance. The Supreme Court had earlier said that no coercive action should be taken against former Rajya Sabha member and Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind president Mahmud Madani and office-bearers of JUH Halal Trust in a criminal case registered in Uttar Pradesh last year regarding the ban.
It has been alleged against the Halal Trust that the trust received huge sums of money by issuing halal certificates for certain products. ‘Halal India’ alleged that the certificates were used to attract customers of “a particular religion”.
